Snake River - the new Winnipeg feature film by writer/director Joseph Novak, premieres Friday, February 19th, 2010 at Cinematheque, 100 Arthur Street.
Shot entirely in Birds Hill and rural municipalities in the vicinity of Winnipeg for only $5,000.00, this revisionist Western is set in the West of 1867. Haunted by a Civil War atrocity, Union cavalry man Jacob (Milton Bruchanski) is lost. Struggling to overcome a violent past, he finds the only home he knows destroyed by the ambitions of his surrogate "brother". The widow Mya (Kimberly Rampersad) is a freed slave who struggles to care for herself and her son, and to cope with the scars of her past. When the wounded Jacob stumbles half conscious onto Mya's property, she reluctantly tends to his wounds and they seem to find peace. But when their two pasts collide, their futures are inevitably altered.
"Snake River" Features Music by Danny Schur
Winnipeg composer Danny Schur (Strike! - The Musical) contributed the score to Snake River including a new song "Deliver Me - Mya's Theme" - sung by Snake River female star, Kimberly Rampersad. "My association with Joseph Novak, through his development of the movie adaptation of my musical Strike!, has made me a big fan of Joe's work. I jumped at the chance to provide the music for the film." Snake River
was produced by Joseph Novak, Alf Kollinger and Danny Schur.
