Ranch Round-Up
Garrett Creek Ranch is developing a sustainability initiative that incorporates our land, our employees, our community and YOU – our guests. This plan will guide our efforts for many years to come. This plan also includes our greening efforts which include:
- Rain catchments
- Composting
- Recycling, and many more initiatives!
Here are areas where you can help. We are looking for your feedback or resources for:
- Single-use recyclable shampoos and soaps
- Should we eliminate disposable cups and bottled water? Click here to let Jaynie know your thoughts.
(If you would like to see a copy, please contact Jaynie Schultz at jaynie@garrettcreekranch.com) Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Bragging Rights
Dedication to innovation, strategic planning, and ethical values has earned Freese and Nichols, Inc. the Texas Award for Performance Excellence in 2007. A leading firm in the field of engineering, environmental science, and architecture, Freese and Nichols chooses clients, employees and vendors with similar values. “GCR shares our values. We have already booked for our 2008 retreat,” says Cindy Milrany Chief Financial Officer and leader of the firm’s quality initiative. Milrany also believes that the Ranch has a really welcoming environment that allows their team to focus and synergize. “The setting is so laid back, so comfortable, it’s the perfect atmosphere for people to come up with good ideas. Plus, everything about the place helps people relax, get to know each other, and really bond.”
Must Have Meeting Tips
We’ve covered a lot of things in the last few months. Now it’s time for everything that does not fall under a category…miscellaneous items. Here are a few items that you should keep in mind:
- The biggest complaint of facilities is planners who give them unclear instructions. Envision how your group will be using the facility. Follow up with written notes and be sure to keep a copy for your records.
- Before the meeting, send a schedule, directions and information about the hotel to all attendees. It is important that they know what to wear, what to bring, what to expect.
- It is wise to have all the attendees’ rooms of the same quality and with the same amenities.
- If your group is large (meaning more than one bus load) have someone check off names to makes sure everyone is on board.

Staff Spotlight
Brigida Valdez came to this country from Mexico looking for a better life for her family. She found that and much more at Garrett Creek Ranch. “Brigida has worked at the Ranch in housekeeping for 18 years, she has never called in sick, has never come in late, simply a dedicated and conscientious employee,” says GCR supervisor Linda Dillinder. When Brigida first came to the US she had a hard time. “I did not like it. I felt insecure because I could not communicate with anyone,” says Brigida. In fact, it was only until she came to work at the Ranch that she began to learn English, “The staff at the Ranch was so welcoming and friendly. I began to gain confidence. I raised my kids in Paradise. My husband Fredy is the GCR ranch hand. I learned to speak English at the Ranch. GCR has offered my family the life we were looking for,” Brigida says with
confident satisfaction. Thank you Brigida! GCR is lucky to have you as part of our family.
